Edward Kaplan Obituary

Edward Kaplan, Sr., 85, of Enfield, beloved husband of the late Rose Sarkis (Gashgorian) Kaplan, died peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2011 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Suffield, Connecticut on March 5, 1926, Edward was the son of the late John J. and Bertha Anna (Piskor) Kaplan. He was a graduate of Suffield High School. Edward has resided in Enfield since 1965 and was a communicant of St. Adalbert Church. He served in the United States Army for twenty-one years, and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon and Bronze Star Medal, retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 1965. Following his retirement from the service, he was a groundskeeper for the Suffield Country Club for many years developing a fascination for finding and collecting golf balls. Edward was a member of the National Watch and Clock Club and the Antique Automobile Club of America. He enjoyed collecting and repairing car clocks and in his leisure time he liked to attend flea markets, tag sales and car shows. Edward is survived by his three children; Deborah Rose Roman and her husband, David of North Granby, Edward Kaplan and his wife, Linda of Suffield and Marc Kaplan and his wife, Mary of Enfield; his eight beloved grandchildren, Michelle Gyngell and her husband, Gordon of Colchester, David R. Roman, Jr. of Boston, MA, Elizabeth Veronica Roman of North Granby, Barbara Ann Kaplan of Suffield, Allison Beth Kaplan of Enfield, Connor Edward Kaplan of Suffield, Jessica Lynn Kaplan of Enfield, Casey Rose Kaplan of Suffield; two loving great grandchildren; Aiden Michael and Emma Rose Gyngell of Colchester; his sisters, Veronica “Ronnie” Wassil and her husband, Anthony of Berlin and Bertha Sojkowski and her husband, Stanley of Enfield; and his brother, Raymond Kaplan and his wife, Cynthia of Somersville. He was predeceased by Agnes Lewis, Stephen Kaplan, Mitchell Kaplan, John Kaplan, Stanley Kaplan, Frederick Kaplan and Bruno Kaplan. Family and friends will gather on Thursday, November 10, 2011 by 10:15 a.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels for a procession to St. Adalbert Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial with Military Honors in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Enfield. Edward’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday November 9, 2011 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082. In lieu of flowers his family has requested memorial donations in Edward’s memory be made to the Suffield Volunteer Ambulance Association, 205 Bridge Street, Suffield, CT 06078.
