Edward J. Provencher, Jr.

Edward J. Provencher, Jr. 86, of Enfield fell asleep peacefully in death on Thursday Nov. 26, 2015 in the comfort of his home. He was born on Oct. 26, 1929 in Enfield, CT, son of the late Edward J. Sr., and Olivia ( Patrevita) Provencher, he was a Graduate of Enfield H.S. Class of 1948 and was a lifelong resident of Enfield. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country proudly during the Korean War. Ed was a partner and co-owner with his brother Richard of Provencher Carpets for over 50 years. He was a member of the Enfield Men’s Golf League, Grey’s AA Club and the Tanguay Magill Post 80 American Legion, Enfield. Ed was very athletic in his younger days, enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing and playing cards. A very generous and giving man he was always lending a hand to help others out with whatever the need, his greatest enjoyment in life though was spending time with his family and friends. Ed is survived by his four children; Edward J. Provencher, III & wife Jill of Oviedo, FL, Jennifer McLaughlin & husband Michael of Dublin, GA, Stephen Provencher & Mary Ann of NC and Kevin Provencher of Sanford, FL, his former wife and mother of his children Joan Cournoyer, his eight beloved grandchildren; Edward J. Provencher IV, Jessica Sword (Jesse), Stephanie Boyette (Matthew), Alissa Sypsa (Stephen), David Jacques, and Michelle, Margot and Marc Provencher, and his cherished great grandson; Gavin Boyette. His siblings; Belinda Gaines, Jeris Griffin (John), John “Jack” Provencher (Geraldine), Glen Provencher, Debbie Sidway (Michael), James Provencher (Debra) all of Enfield, Marlene Marek of Suffield, Ted Provencher (Nancy) of Granby, CT, Jean Bassett (Robert) of Brewster, MA and Gary Provencher (Kathleen) of Ludlow, MA, two sisters-in-laws; Erline Provencher and Barbara Provencher both of Enfield, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ed was predeceased by his two brothers; Richard and Timothy, two brothers-in-law; William Gaines and Raymond Marek and a sister-in-law Robyn (O’Connell) Provencher. <br>Relatives and friends may gather with Ed’s family during calling hours on Tuesday Dec. 1, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in honor of his mother Olivia and his brother Tim may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 200 Executive Blvd. Ste. 4B Southington, CT 06489. <br>
