Elizabeth "Betty" (Coffin) Pearson, 88, of Enfield, passed peacefully from this life Wednesday September 23, 2009 at home, with family by her side. Betty was born in Roslyn, NY January 17, 1921 the daughter of the late John Uriah and Carrie (Fox) Coffin. Living in Newtown, CT for many years, she moved to Enfield 27 years ago settling in Mark Twain Congregate Living Center. Elizabeth attended Manhasset High School, Manhasset LI, NY and earned her degree in nursing from Roosevelt Hospital School of Nursing, Manhattan. NY. Her career as a nurse spanned 30 years, 19 of them as an operating room nurse with New Milford Hospital. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Enfield Quilters, the Prayer Shawl Ministry UMCE, a long time member of Newtown United Methodist Church and United Methodist Church of Enfield. A passionate seamstress, Betty was well known for her beautiful quilts. She enjoyed cooking and sharing her delicious creations with her many friends. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Betty is survived by her daughter Janet Love and husband Bruce of Cape Elizabeth, ME, grandson Andrew Stuart Love of Portland, ME, her sister Helene Coffin Smith of Tryon, NC and special nieces Kathleen Sousa of Tryon, NC and Janet Ullman of Westbury, NY. Betty was predeceased by her husband Henry Pearson. Betty's family would like to extend special thanks to her dear friends Karen Chung and Jane Griffiee additionally Crystal, Jan and all of caring staff of Home & Community Health Services Hospice. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2009 in the United Methodist Church of Enfield, 41 Brainard Rd. Betty's family will receive friends and family Friday September 25, 2009 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY. Memorial Donations in Betty's memory may be made to the United Methodist Church of Enfield 41 Brainard Rd. Enfield, CT 06082 or Home & Community Services, Inc. P. O. Box 119 Enfield, CT 06083-1199.
