Elsie Paradise

Elsie (Schmaltz) Paradise, 87 of Enfield, entered into eternal rest Thursday, January 20, 2005 at the Parkway Pavilion, Enfield. She was predeceased by her beloved life partner Chuck Kerfoot. Born September 28, 1917 in Hartford, CT the daughter of the late Gustav and Pauline (Schlak) Schmaltz, Elsie was educated in the Hartford Public School System. Elsie served in the US Army Women's Corps during WWII from 1943 to 1945. Prior to her retirement in 1982 she had been employed with the State of Connecticut Department of Transportation as Toll Supervisor. Elsie was a resident of Enfield for 25 years and had previously resided in Warehouse Point for 10 years. She was a member of the American Legion, Tanguay-Magill Post 80, Enfield, serving in the offices of Post Adjutant, 1st District Adjutant, Chaplain, and Department Vice Commander for Women Veterans for three terms. Elsie was an invited member of the 20/4 National Honor Society of Woman Legionnaires Echelon #34, a member of Amvets Post 18, served on the Enfield Veteran's Council and was a member of the A.A.R.P and C.S.E.A. retired chapter 410.<br>Elsie is survived by her 2 daughters & sons-in-law, Susan and Harry Modzelewski of Ellington, CT and Charlene and Donald Drew of Lakeland, FL, 4 grandchildren, Brett Montgomery of KY, Todd Montgomery of TN, Thomas Modzelewski of S. Windsor, David Modzelewski of Ellington and 1 great grandchild, Angelica Montgomery of TN. She is also survived by her brother Henry Schmaltz of FL, a niece Charlene Gino and nephews Richard Schmaltz and Matthew Novack. Elsie was predeceased her sister Helen Novack. <br><br>A graveside service with military honors will be held 11:30 am Monday January 24, 2005 at Enfield St. Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in Elsie's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc. of Greater Hartford 96 Oak St. Hartford, CT 06106. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield is handling the arrangements.<br>
