Elwin Gerald Drake, 83, beloved husband of Marie M. Drake, who pre-deceased him, entered into eternal life on Friday (March 15, 2013) at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, MA. He was born on December 19, 1929 in St. Francis, Maine, a son of the late Stanley Drake and Eunice (Hatt) Drake and resided in Enfield for the past 54 years. He retired from Stop & Shop after 25 years of employment and enjoyed his retirement by working part-time for the Town of Enfield. He will best be remembered for his great love of family and friends, his wonderful sense of humor, and undying loyalty to the Red Sox, Celtics and Lady Huskies. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he is survived by six children, Jerry Drake of Enfield, Michael Drake and his wife Carmen of Westbrook, CT, Judy Dupuis and her husband Phil of West Suffield, CT, Joyce Frangiamore and her husband Joe of Enfield, CT, Jeffrey Drake and his wife Denise of West Suffield, CT, Mary Lynn Nolan and her husband Tim of Portland, CT, son-in-law Gerry Lapins of Feeding Hills and his 19 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is pre-deceased by his loving daughter Janice Lapins. He also leaves 9 sisters, Dorothy, Louise, Helen, Carol, Freda, Joyce, Florence, Nellie, and Leila, and 5 brothers, Donald, Richard, Floyd, Raymond and Lawrence. Elwin was pre-deceased by 3 sisters, Louise, Lona and Ginny and by 1 brother, Gordon. Elwin’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday March 18, from 4-8 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. An internment service will also be held in Fort Kent, Maine at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Dean Hwy. Ste. 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or to the American Cancer Society Memorial Donations, 30 Speen, St., Framingham, MA, 01701.
