Frederick Gokey

Frederick F. "Fred" Gokey, 73, of Enfield, entered peacefully into eternal life on Wednesday July 29, 2009 surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. Fred was born on Feb. 5, 1936 in Glens Falls, NY son of the late Joseph S. and Catherine (Dineen) Gokey. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Prior to retiring in 1990 Fred was employed for 28 years with Transamerica Insurance Co. Fred was a member of the American Legion Tanguay Magill Post 80, Enfield, a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 50, Enfield, Friend of Bill W. and a member of Holy Family Church. He was an avid NY Giants, UCONN Huskies Basketball and Red Sox fan.<br>Fred was the beloved husband of 47 years to Diane (Nolan) Gokey, a loving father to his daughter, Kim M. Bower & husband, Michael of Enfield, his son, Michael J. Gokey & wife, Holly of Feeding Hills, MA and his daughter, Kelly A. Twiss & husband, Kevin of Enfield, the beloved grandfather to his six grandchildren, Melissa L. Edwards, Katrina D. Bower, Lindley S. Bower, Kerry M. Bower, Daniel R. Augur and Kyle M. Twiss, a great granddaughter, Paige L. Edwards and a special uncle to, Kathy Roman & husband, Joe, Tom Nolan & wife, Linda and John Nolan & wife, Diane. <br>Funeral services for Fred will be held on Saturday Aug. 1, 2009 with the funeral procession forming at 9:00 a.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels to Holy Family Church 23 Simon Rd. Enfield for 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery, Enfield.<br>His family will receive relatives and friends on Friday July 31, 2009 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Enfield Ambulance/EMS Town of Enfield C/O Finance Dept. 820 Enfield Street Enfield, CT 06082.
