Gerard (Gerry) R Gonyea 75, entered into eternal peace, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday Aug. 23 at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Gerry was born in Clarenceville, Quebec April 15, 1930 the son of the late Raymond & Alice (Breault) Gonyea. He was an Enfield resident for over 36 years and for the past year resided in Somersville, CT. He was formerly employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft East Hartford and the Elm-Cap Industries West Hartford retiring in 1988. Gerry had a very distinguished career with the US Marine Corps. A Korean War veteran he was a recipient of: the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He was actively involved with the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and the Register of Voters in Enfield. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. When he was not with his family he loved to fish, hunt, and play the lottery.

Gerry lost his beloved wife Arlene Clapp Gonyea of 45 years in 2003. He is survived by his children: Mary Lou Gonyea and longtime friend Lois Cybulski of Enfield, Jane Gonyea of Enfield, Gerard Gonyea and his wife Hillary of Enfield, Darrell Gonyea & his wife Christine of Somersville, five grandchildren Samantha & Mackenzie Gonyea, Christie Byers, and Ashley & Darrell Gonyea. He also leaves his brothers: Donald Gonyea and his wife Betty of CT, Leonard Gonyea and his wife Rose of CT, Bernard Gonyea & his wife Marie of CT, Richard Gonyea of VT, sisters: Louise Fitzsimmons and her husband James of VT, Delia Singleton and her husband Jack of NY, and sister-in-law Kay Gonyea of CT and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Arlene, his brothers: Phillip, Paul, Edward, George, Raymond, and his sister Margaret.

Calling hours for Gerry will be TODAY (Thursday 8/25/05) from 5-8 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield with a Marine Corp Service at 7:00pm. Funeral services will be held Friday 11:30 am at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, burial immediately following in Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield with Military Honors.
