Harry "Ted" Barlow

Harry “Ted” E. Barlow, of Enfield passed away on Wednesday (June 29, 2011) at the age of 75 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home after battling Alzheimer. He was the beloved husband of 45 yrs. to Dora (Dauplaise) Barlow and son of the late Lewis and Helen “Pat” (Davis) Barlow Gowdy. Ted was born on Dec. 28, 1935 in Pittsfield, MA and resided in Enfield for over 40 years. He was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and Charter Oak College. Before retiring in 2000, Ted worked for The Hartford Insurance Group for 15 years. He was a proud member of the US Army and retired after 23 years of service to his country. Having a passion for hiking Ted was a member of the Pioneer Valley Hiking Club and hiked part of the Appalachian and Long Trails. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida and belonged to the Nettles Island Yacht & Men’s Clubs, in his spare time he spent hours working on Jigsaw puzzles but, his greatest joy was spending time with family, he volunteered for the local Hospice Program and shared some of his time reading the Bible to the inmates at Somers Prison. Ted was a life-time member of the K of C Council 50, Enfield and the AMVETS Post 18, Enfield. Besides his wife, Ted leaves behind a daughter Margaret Normoyle and her husband Michael of Springfield, MA, a son Joseph Barlow and his wife Liz of Windsor, CT and a daughter Theresa Barlow and her significant other Sal Simonelli of Woodstock, CT, his grandchildren that gave him great pride and joy; Michael, Thomas, Jack & Caitlin Normoyle, Nicolas Simonelli and Benjamin & Henry Barlow. He also leaves a sister Judy DeGrenier of Manluis, NY and a brother Lewis Barlow of Falmouth, MA along with many nieces and nephews. Ted was also predeceased by a sister Jane Beemer. Relatives and friends may gather with his family on Monday (July 18, 2011) from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Ted’s life will be held on Tuesday (July 19, 2011) at 9:30 am in St. Adalbert’s Church 90 Alden Ave. Enfield followed by committal services with full military honors in the Massachusetts Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery, Agawam, MA. Memorial donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the Soldier’s Home in Holyoke 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040.
