Irene Keyes

Irene V. Keyes, of Enfield, entered peacefully into eternal life at the age of 80, on Sunday (September 11, 2011) in the comfort of her home. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to Royce W. Keyes, Jr. and daughter of the late Paul and Michalena (Sakalauskas) Visnauskas. Irene grew up in New Britain and was a graduate of New Britain High School and resided in Enfield for the past 52 years. Before retiring many years ago she was employed for 20 years with Bradlees Department Store, but she dedicated most of her time to caring for her family and home. Her greatest treasure in life was spending time with family especially her grandchildren. In her leisure time she enjoyed playing bingo, trips to the casino, Hot Spot in Florida and winters spent in Davenport, Florida at Mouse Mountain Resort and summer vacations in Lake Bomoseen, VT. Besides her beloved husband Royce, Irene is also survived by her 5 loving children; Ron Keyes and wife Sharon of Manchester, Linda Eichler and husband Jack of Enfield, Tim Keyes and wife Theresa of East Windsor, Patricia Keyes of Enfield and Anne Tingley and husband Scott of Enfield, her eight beloved grandchildren; Matt, Kat & Greg Eichler, Kayla & Melissa Tingley and Kristina, Kylie & Kassie Keyes, also her brother; Dr. John Visnauskas and wife Phyllis of Newington along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Irene was predeceased by a brother Frank Visnauskas. The family would like to especially thank the Home & Community Health Services, Hospice Program for the exceptional support and care given to Irene. Relatives and friends may gather with Irene’s family during calling hours on Wednesday (September 14, 2011) from 4:00 to 8:00pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (September 15,) with the procession forming at 9:00 am at the funeral home to Holy Family Church 23 Simon Rd. Enfield for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial donations in Irene’s memory may be made to the State of Connecticut Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped 198 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067 or St. Francis of Assisi Breadline for the Poor, St. Francis of Assisi Church 135 West 31st Street, New York, NY 10001.
