Irene (Tenerowicz) Ragno, 86, of Enfield, Died October 9, 2010 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. Born in Westfield, MA on March 28, 1924, during one of the Westfield River’s seasonal floods, Irene and her mother were removed by boat from the second story where the family had taken refuge. Daughter of the late Stanley Tenerowicz and Valeria (Kissel), and the wife of the late Louis J. Ragno (former director of the Enfield Housing Authority), Irene was a lifelong Enfield resident. A 1945 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing, Irene worked as a registered nurse in Connecticut at St. Francis Hospital, St. Mary’s Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, FL. Leaving the nursing profession in 1955, she and her husband owned Ragno’s Book Shop until 1970. She leaves her daughter, Susan Roberts; a devoted sister Theresa Dziadul; a niece, Martha Doak and family; and her loyal dogs. There will be no calling hours. Service and burial are private and will be at the convenience of the family.
