James Burke

James J. Burke, Sr., of West Springfield, MA entered into eternal life at the age of 94, on Monday (Feb. 3, 2014). He was the beloved husband of 54 years to the late Beatrice (Cuomo) Burke. James was born on May 4, 1919 in West Springfield, MA the son of the late John and Minnie (Cackley) Burke and was a lifelong resident of West Springfield. He was employed for many years with Strathmore Paper Co. before retiring. James was member of Sacred Heart Church Feeding Hills. James enjoyed the simple pleasures of life especially spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. James is survived by his daughter Carol A. Burke & her longtime companion William Moriarty of W. Springfield and daughter-in-law Sharon Burke of Southwick, MA, his three grandchildren Jennifer Boivin & husband Zachary, Sean Burke and Brian Burke, his great granddaughter Jacquelyn Boivin, along with several nieces & nephews. Besides his wife, James was predeceased by his son James J. Burke, Jr. and his brothers Frederick, Miles, William and a sister Helen Babcock. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (Feb. 8, 2014) at 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church 1103 Springfield St. Feeding Hills, MA. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 1103 Springfield St. Feeding, MA 01041. St. Jude’s Research Hospital for Children, P. O. Box 3704, Memphis, TN 38173-3704 or Jericho Bureau for Exceptional Children 537 Northampton St. P.O. Box 1039 Holyoke, MA 01041-1039. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels Enfield, CT is assisting the family with arrangements.
