James "Jim" Powers Obituary

James F. Powers of Enfield entered into eternal life at the age of 87 on Friday, Nov 9, 2012. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (Pacheco) Powers. Jim was born on Oct 18, 1925 in Fall River, MA, the son of the late Peter and Margaret Powers. Jim served in the Merchant Marines as a young man and later made his living as a truck driver and retired from Valeries Transportation. He was a member of Teamsters local 671. Jim was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th Degrees of the Enfield, Broadbrook, and Somers Councils. His many years of service included the offices of Grand Knight and District Deputy. Jim had a huge heart and loved to make people happy, always giving of himself to help others and graciously volunteering his help to the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Felician Sisters. He was envolved in many projects with the K of C for the clients of the Allied Services (The former ARC) , fund raising with the annual Tootsie Roll Drive for the Mark Channel Fund, The Special Olympics, The Annual Family Picnic, monthly dances, and the annual Christmas Party. Jim is survived by his beloved children: James P. Powers of San Diego, CA, Rosemary Donovan and husband Greg of Vernon, Ct, Ralph Powers and wife Virginia of Enfield, CT, and Maryjo Lessard and husband Kevin of Enfield, Ct. He leaves 13 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Jim is also survived by his sister, Honora Coyne of Fall River, Ma and a brother John B. Powers of E. Taunton, Ma. Jim was also predeceased by a daughter Margaret Bass and a grandson Timothy Lessard. Calling hours are Friday, Nov 16 from 3 to 7 PM at the Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield Street, Enfield. CT. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov 17 with a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Chapel also at 1365 Enfield ST followed by Interment at the Hazardville Cemetery . In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 1365 Enfield ST or The Felician Sisters, 1315 Enfield ST.
