John "Jack" A. Ciak
May 26, 1940 - June 29, 2009. Jack was born in Springfield, MA and raised in Hazardville he loved living close to "Powder Hollow". He left Hazardville to serve in the US Coast Guard from 1958 to 1962, where he was stationed in Cape May NJ and Esopus Meadow Lighthouse in NY. After serving in the Coast Guard, he returned to Hazardville and being a sports fanatic, Jack played softball in numerous town leagues for many years, having been an excellent player he was scouted by the L.A. Dodgers. When he no longer played ball, he enjoyed his garden, playing cards and meeting with friends. He was a member of the American Legion, Tanguay Magill Post 80 Enfield.
Jack was a Teamster and was employed for many years as a truck driver for Hemingway and Finest/Edwards Food stores and was also employed for 4 years with Southern Auto Auction.
He is survived by his mother, Josephine "Josie" S. Smith; daughter, Sherri Mathis and two grandchildren, Jacob and Rachel, his sister, Mrs. David (Terry) Eilers and family. He was pre-deceased by his son, John S. Ciak and stepfather, Fred B Smith.
A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at the convenience of his family in St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield has been entrusted with his arrangements.
