John "Jack" Pelkey

John “Jack” B. Pelkey, of Enfield entered into eternal life at the age of 89 on Tuesday July 9, 2013 at Baystate Medical Ctr., Springfield, MA. Jack was the beloved husband of the late Hazel (Burke) Pelkey. He was born on June 17, 1924 in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, son of the late Earl and Mae (Phaneuff) Pelkey. Jack was a graduate of Enfield High School. He then enlisted and served his country honorably with the U.S. Navy during WW II. Upon returning from the service Jack was employed by Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co., Thompsonville and then worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 32 years retiring many years ago. He was a lifelong resident of Enfield. Jack had a passion for flying, was an avid fisherman, enjoyed gardening and spending time with his loving family. He was a member of St. Patrick Church and active member of the Skylark Flyers EAA Chapter 1310, Inc. Jack is survived by his children; Kathleen Pelkey & husband Michael Hannah of Enfield, Susan Haley of Mattapoisette, MA, John B. Pelkey of Point Richmond, CA, Mary Ellen Livesay & husband Greg of Tarpon Springs, FL and Charles F. Pelkey of Enfield, his beloved grandchildren; Lisa, Dawn, Patrick, Katherine, Jonathan, Matthew, Timothy, Jeffrey and Jamie, great-grandchildren; Mitchell, Jacob, Jayzlyn, Faith and Trevon, along with his brother Earl Pelkey of Enfield. Friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Friday July 12, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, Enfield on Saturday July 13, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. (Please meet at church). Interment with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P. O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005.
