John "Jack" Downey
John “Jack” H. Downey, 91, of Broad Brook section of East Windsor, entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday Nov. 9, 2017 at Hartford Hospital, Hartford. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to the late Florence M. (Marciniak) Downey (2000). John was born on Jan. 21, 1926 in West Bridgewater, PA to the late John H. and Rose (Cameron) Downey and had resided in Broad Brook for the past 65 years. He served his country proudly with the U.S. Navy during WW II. Jack retired from after 35 years with UTC and continued to work as a grounds keeper at Grassmere C.C. for 25 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, where he had 2 “hole-in-ones at Grassmere C.C., traveling and vacationing at Myrtle Beach. Jack is survived by his two daughters; Cynthia Paluck of Enfield and Susan Ross of Moodus, his two grandchildren; Cameron and Courtney. Along with his close friends; Bill & Jennie Kamerer, Bill & Margo Kamerer, John & Eileen Kouba, as well as many other friends and acquaintances. Besides his wife Flo and parents, he was also predeceased by his daughter Laura Kaplan. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday Nov. 14, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Catherine Church 4 Windsorville Rd. Broad Brook. Burial with military honors will be at the convenience of the family in St. Catherine’s Cemetery Broad Brook. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assoc.
