John "Jack" O'Brien Obituary

John F. “Jack” O’Brien, 86, the beloved husband of Mildred (O’Donnell) O’Brien for over 62 years, passed away surrounded by his loving family February 10, 2014. He was the son of the late William and Helen (Fleming) O’Brien. He was a lifelong resident of Enfield and a graduate of Enfield High School. After serving in the Navy as a corpsman during World War II, Jack went on to graduate from St. Michael’s College. Jack retired as principal of Windsor Locks High School. Besides his wife, he is survived by his three loving children, Kevin J. O’Brien and his wife Susan of New Canaan, CT, Mary Ellen Kempton and her husband Fred of Bourne, MA, and John P. O’Brien and his wife Martha of Suffield, CT, and cherished grandchildren, Emily Andrew, Daniel, Elizabeth, Patrick and Spencer. He is also survived by his loving brother William J. O’Brien and his wife Mary, and his loving sister Helen Cummings and her husband Robert. He was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Trappe and her husband John. In addition he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Anne –Marie Woods and Irene Angelica and many cherished nieces and nephews. His family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital for their incredibly kind and compassionate care. Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday (Feb. 14, 2014) at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. The funeral procession will form at the funeral home on Saturday (Feb. 15, 2014) at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church. Interment will then take place in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Society of St. Edmund, St. Michael’s College, Winooski Park, P.O. Box 270, Colchester, VT 05439.
