John Kulungian

John Kulungian, 78, a resident of Enfield for over 50 years, died Friday (Oct 23) at Johnson Memorial Hospital. John was born January 5, 1931 in Worcester, Ma the son of the late David & Siranoush "Nazo" Papzian Kulungian. John was predeceased by his wife Doris Rousseau Kulungian in 2001. John joined the Army Air Corp at 17 years old serving in Michigan and then Japan during WWII. After 20 years of honorable service for his country John retired in 1989 as Tech Sergeant. John was employed by Pratt & Whitney and several CT based aircraft manufacturing companies as an Aircraft Engine Test Stand Operator, he retired as a mechanical Inspector from Hamilton Standard in 1994. Upon his retirement John focused his energy and passion on oil and water based paintings through local artisan groups. Several of his pieces were shown and shared. John also enjoyed gardening, restoring automobiles, and coordinating the annual automobile raffle for Holy Family Church where John had been a devout member for over 40 years. As a decorated veteran of foreign wars John was proud to raise the American Flag every April 24th on the steps of city hall in Springfield, Ma with local and state officials to recognize Armenian Martyrs Day. John is survived by his children, two daughters: Diane Halabi-Kulungian and her husband Aymen of Bridgeport, CT, Susanne L. Kulungian of Windsor Locks and two sons: Michael Kulungian of Windsor Locks and John Kulungian and his wife Susan of Andover, MA, five grandchildren: Layla, Saayied, & Rema Halabi and Victoria & Nicholas Kulungian. Three siblings: Alice Walker of Oxford, MA, Agnes Woolsey of Mendocino, CA, and Harold Kulungian of Amherst, MA. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels has been entrusted with arrangements. At the request of the family, funeral services with full military honors at the Agawam Veterans Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: Shiners' Hospital for Children 1516 Carew Street Springfield, MA 01104.<br><br><br><br>
