John O'Connor

John "Jack" F. O'Connor, 84, of Enfield passed onto his eternal life surrounded by loved ones on Thursday November 6, 2008. He was born in Springfield, MA on September 4, 1924 a son of the late John F. and Alice (White) O'Connor and was a lifelong resident of Enfield. Jack was the beloved husband of the late Lillian (O'Donnell) O'Connor. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army Air Force during WW II, as a member of the 15th Air Force, 460th Bomb Group that was shot down over Weiner-Neustad Austria. Captured and imprisoned at Stalag Luft IV and was liberated in May of 1945. He always encouraged his family to never forget the importance and significance of the war his generation fought. He was a member of the American Ex-POW's. Prior to his retirement he had been employed with Levitz Furniture Store for many years and before that was a manager with Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. for 23 years. Jack was also a member of St. Patrick's Church and Past Grand Knight of Council 50 Knights of Columbus, Enfield.<br> He was a true, avid and lifelong Boston Red Sox fan. Jack is survived by his loving family; a son, Timothy O'Connor and wife, Barbara of Agawam, MA, a daughter, Anne Neuser and husband, Stephen of Claremont, NH, his beloved grandchildren; Michael O'Connor and wife, Lynne of Feeding Hills, MA., Christopher O'Connor and wife, Jaime of W. Springfield, MA, Liam Neuser and Chloe Neuser, his great grandchildren, Bromleigh and Zachary O'Connor. He leaves a brother, Donald O'Connor and wife, Lucille of Longmeadow, MA, three sisters-in-law, Anne Marie Woods of W. Suffield, CT, Mildred O'Brien and Irene Angelica both of Enfield along with many nieces and nephews, also a special friend, Donna Schaefer of Lincoln, Nebraska. His family would especially like to thank the Chicopee VNA and the Holyoke Hospice Program for their kind and gentle support for the past three months. Funeral services in celebration of Jack's life will be held on Monday November 10, 2008 with the funeral procession forming at 10:30 a.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield to St. Adalbert's Church, Enfield for a 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Jack's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday November 9, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Chicopee VNA or Holyoke Visiting Nurse Assoc., Inc. Hospice Life Care 113 Hampden St. Holyoke, MA 01040-5105<br>
