José "Joe" Augusto, 81, a resident of Enfield for over 50 years, entered peacefully into eternal life on Thursday, August 28, 2008 surrounded by loved ones. Joe was the beloved husband of Shirley M. (Thans). He was born on March 10, 1927 in Ludlow, MA a son of Hector and Maria D. (Batista) Augusto. Joe served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. After returning from the service he worked many years in the lumber industry for A. Boilard Sons, Inc. and later retired as a Construction Manager from CRKlewin, Inc. An accomplished musician, Joe was a very popular drummer in many local bands.
Besides his wife, Shirley, Joe is survived by his loving family; a son, George R. LaVoice & wife, Vicki, a daughter, Leslie A. Nelson & husband, Paul, a daughter, Val Mikels, a son, Wayne D. Augusto & wife, Heidi, and a son, Paul V. Augusto; his three beloved grandchildren, Matthew V. LaVoice & wife, Tammie, Damian J. LaVoice & wife, Valerie, and Mary C. Hill & husband, Undra; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan D. Murchison and Danika N. Cook. Also his three siblings; Arthur Augusto & wife, Gloria, Mary L. Swiencanski and Joaquina Bergeron & husband, Leo, along with many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by two sons, Joe Augusto, Jr. and Robert Augusto and two sisters, Theresa Augusto and Aurea Greanier. Joe's family would like to extend their profound gratitude to his caregiver, Beth Ruot of Companions & Homemakers for the exemplary care and compassion that she gave to Joe.
Family and friends will gather Tuesday September 2, 2008 by 9:15 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield, for a procession to St. Martha's Church 214 Brainard Rd. Enfield where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment with military honors in St. Patrick King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Calling hours are Monday September 1, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Martha School.
