Joseph Basile

Joseph J.(Joe) Basile 82 died peacefully on Saturday April 28, 2007 at Johnson Memorial Hospital Stafford. Joe was born in the Thompsonville Section of Enfield September 14, 1924 the son of the late Gaetano and Anna (Romano) Basile and was an Enfield resident all his life. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during WW II as a combat Infantryman with the 164th Infantry Regiment in the South Pacific. He was a devote catholic and member of St. Patrick's Church in Thompsonville. One of Joe's great passions in life was golf and he played four times a week. Joe served as treasurer of the Dante Club Golf League of West Springfield MA. for many years and was a member of the Shaker Farms Country Club Westfield Ma for over forty years. Joe was formerly employed by Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. in Thompsonville, Kaman Aircraft, and then Hamilton Standard of Windsor Locks as a Project Planner in the Space and Sea Systems working on the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs, and retired in 1987. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of Fifty Seven years Eda ( D'Agostino) Basile, also his beloved son Thomas J. Basile of Enfield, and daughter Maryann G. Basile of Wethersfield. Joe leaves his brother and sister in-law Anthony and Isabella Basile, his sister Vincie Basile all of Enfield. He is also survived by a sister in-law Jeanne Basile of Enfield, and a sister in-law Jane Basile f Melbourne FL., a brother in-law and sister in-law Albert and Barbara D'Agostino of Agawam MA., and his brother in-law and golfing partner Angelo D'Agostino and sister in-law Barbara D'Agostino. Joe also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas and Carlo and his sister Eva Fusick. Funeral services in celebration of Joe's life will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 AM from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in St. Patrick's Church Pearl & High St Thompsonville section of Enfield. Burial will be with military honors in St. Patrick's King Street Cemetery Enfield. The Basile family will receive relatives and friends at Browne Chapels on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
