ENFIELD – Joseph J. Emonds, 88, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Hartford, son of the late John and Mary (Flamio) Emonds, he lived in Hartford before moving to Enfield in 1960. Joe worked for twenty years as a meat cutter at A & P, 5 years for the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection and worked 21 years as a USDA Food Safety Inspector. He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 – 1954, and attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 154, the Model A Club of America, the Model A Club of Connecticut, and the Old Car Guys Breakfast Club. Joe’s family would like to extend a special thanks to his nephew, Richard Sanzo and Gary and Linda Auretta for their loving support. He was predeceased by his wife of sixty-five years, Rena Mae (Corbin) Emonds, his three sisters, Clara Sanzo, Rosemary Fleeher and Lillian Zaccaro. He leaves his children, RoseMary and Kim Wheat of Windham, Cheryl and Steve McGuff of Avon, Joella and Dave Nicewicz of South Windsor, seven grandchildren, Jonathan Wheat and his spouse Wendy, Jason Wheat, Shannon McGuff Shupak and her spouse Dr. Raymond Shupak, Kelsey McGuff Perry and her spouse Stephen Perry, Brendan McGuff, Hailey Nicewicz, Alexis Nicewicz, five great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Parker, Lila Mae, Luca, Freya Mae. Joe’s family will receive relatives and friends Monday, August 5, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield. A funeral procession will form 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the funeral home for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church (St. Jean Jugan Parish). Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick King St. Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Model A Ford Youth Scholarship Fund, 375 High Head Rd., Harpsville, ME 04079.
