Joseph Scalia Obituary

Joseph C. Scalia, 81, of Enfield, entered into eternal life on Saturday March 8, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center Springfield, MA. He was the beloved husband of the late Juanita M. (Lech) Scalia and son of the late Carmelo and Lillian (Agilita) Scalia. Joseph was born on September 30, 1932, in Enfield, CT, and was a lifelong resident of Enfield. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to retiring in Sept. 1987 he was employed by Eastern Airlines for 25 years. Joe was a member of St. Adalbert Church and the John Maciolek Post 154 American Legion, Enfield. He was, a former Coach with the Thompsonville Little League for 30 years, an avid bowler, UCONN Huskies Women’s Basketball fan, enjoyed cooking and had a great sense of humor. Joseph is survived by his three sons; Joseph C. Scalia, Jr. & wife Elaine of W. Springfield, MA, James M. Scalia & wife Bonnie of Enfield and John R. Scalia & wife Debbie of Great Barrington, MA, his 9 cherished and adored grandchildren and 25 beloved great grandchildren, his loving companion Carmela “Mel” Houlihan, a brother Charles J. Scalia & wife Barbara of Springfield, MA, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by a sister Josephine Chrusciel. Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (March 12, 2014) at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, The funeral procession will form at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (March 13) from the funeral home to St. Adalbert Church 90 Alden Ave. Enfield for a 12:00 p.m. (noon) Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Adalbert Cemetery in Enfield. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Enfield EMS (Ambulance Fund) 1296 Enfield St. Enfield, CT 06082 or the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society P.O. Box 6307 Springfield, MA 01101.
