Karel Jan Eyberse,65 of Enfield, passed from his earthly journey on Saturday April 9, 2016 at Baystate Medical Center Springfield, MA. He was born on August 4, 1950 in Norwich, CT, son of the late Karel Jan Eyberse,Sr. and Ruth (Viola) Himelstein and her husband Samuel Himelstein. Karel was a graduate of Enfield H. S. Class of 1969 and attended Asnuntuck C.C. He served his country with the U.S. Army. Karel resided in Enfield a good portion of his life and for several years in Florida and California. He was a member of the Enfield Bird Society and had an avid interest metal detecting and ecological issues. Karl is survived by his wife Christina Angeloni-Eyberse, his daughter and son-in-law: Tamara Eyberse-Prentiss &her husband Granville and his beloved granddaughter. He is also survived by his sisters: Denise Deauville- Stelmat & husband Timothy of Cathage, NC, Donna G. Barsalou of Enfield and Karen Guertin of Norwich, a brother: Billy Eyberse of Willimantic, nephews: Timothy Stelmat, Jr., Todd Barsalou, Darren Barsalou, Timothy Janssen Jr., and Eric Janssen, a niece Renee Quinn & husband Jeff, aunts: Mildred MacDonald of Uncasville and Joyce Dux of Vermont. At 16 Karel worked for the Brook’s Pharmacy in Hazardville, and delivered prescriptions; at 19 he joined the U.S. Army and became an Electronics Instructor. After leaving the service he was the Coordinator of Veterans Affairs at Asnuntuck CC while attending classes there. He also worked at Hamilton Standard and Combustion Engineering. In Lake Worth, Florida he became a Technician and troubleshooter who fixed Traffic Lights in Gale force winds in a Cherry picker truck. He prospected Quartz crystal in CA and found a large cache. He went metal detecting for years with friends at work until his best friend passed. He spent a lot of time with his daughter and granddaughter teaching them about wild life at the Longmeadow, MA bird sanctuary. Karel was a Biotech for the National Forest Service in Northern California for two years hiking 14 miles a day to help the Endangered Spotted Owl population. He was an active Wildlife advocate concerned with old growth forests, endangered and keystone species. He also went caving in Oregon sometimes with no room to stand. After returning from California he started working for Otis Elevator and was there 26 years not retiring at 65. Not many people know that in college he studied fine arts under Tony Cirone and painted in the style of Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo.
