Lonnie Cox, of Enfield, CT and formerly of Dagget, California, entered into eternal rest peacefully with loved ones at his side on Monday (July 5, 2010). He was born on January 27, 1942 in Chicod Township Pitt County, NC son of the late Lonnie Stewart and Hasty Mae Foreman (Cox) and predeceased also by his step-father, Joffie Foreman, Sr. Lonnie had resided with his son, Lonel and family in Enfield since December 2009. Lonnie attended Temple University before making a 25 year military career with the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam War and Dessert Storm. He was a helicopter mechanic employed with VSE Corporation. Lonnie is survived by his beloved son Lonel Douglas and his wife, Deborah of Enfield, CT, his grandchildren; Ashlynn, Shamya, Janell and Destiny Douglas, a step granddaughter, Debony Hayes and step grandson, Steve Vorise, a great grandson, Jeremiah Boakye and two great granddaughters, Deja Hayes and Morgan Simmons. He is also survived by his siblings; Joffie Foreman, Jr. & wife, Juanita, Lillian Washington, Ava Foreman, Virginia Hemby & husband, William, Bettie Saunders, Hasty P. Foreman all of West Haven, CT, Elbert Foreman of Washington, NC, Carolyn Carmon of Grimesland, NC and Pamela Foreman Jones & husband, Joseph of Blounts Creek, NC along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Lonnie was faithful in praying to his Lord and Savior: Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done. On earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we have forgiven our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 10, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Joe’s Branch Freewheel Baptist Church P.O. Box 390 Vanceboro, NC with the Rev. Michael Pretty officiating followed by interment with full military honors in Joe’s Branch Cemetery. His family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT has been entrusted with his arrangements.
