Marlys Westerbeck

Marlys Joy (Borkowski) Westerbeck, 72, of Enfield, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Evergreen Healthcare in Stafford. Born on April 6, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Marlys was the daughter of the late Herman and Alice (Saleska) Borkowski. She was a graduate of Pulaski High School in Milwaukee and McConnel Air Training School in Chicago, IL. Marlys resided in Enfield for forty-five years, and was employed by Capital Airlines and JC Penney for twenty-one years prior to her retirement. Marlys worshipped at First Baptist Church in Enfield where she sung alto in the choir and worked with kids. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and cross-stitch. Marlys was admired by her family and friends. In her high school year book it was quoted, “Heaven made her and then threw away the mold” and many spoke of her as having a “servant’s heart”. Marlys is survived by her beloved daughter, Cheryl O’Keefe and her husband, Glen of Enfield; her twin granddaughters, Alyssa O’Keefe and Katie O’Keefe; and her former husband and friend, Dale R. Westerbeck. She was predeceased by her sister, Cheryl Borkowski. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 253 Brainard Road, Enfield, CT 06082. A private burial will be held at Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Springfield Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 9045, Springfield, MA 01102-9045. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels has been entrusted with the arrangements.
