Mary Catania Obituary

Mary J. (Scalia) Catania, 92, entered into the eternal peace of God's infinite mercy on Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at the Suffield House, Suffield. Mary was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Destefano) Scalia and had resided in Enfield most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the former Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. and later by Excello in East Windsor. She was a former member of St. Patrick's Church in Thompsonville, St. Martha's Church in Enfield, and later a communicant of Holy Family Church in Enfield.

Mary's life was her family and she will always be remembered for her kind, gentle ways, beautiful smile, warmth and genuine concern for others. Mary was pre-deceased by her beloved husband Vincent (Jimmy) Catania in 1967. She is survived by her loving family; two daughters and a son in-law, Jean Tinto of Newington and Linda and John Bennici of Enfield; three sons and a daughter in-law, Carmelo and Ann Catania of Enfield, Joseph Catania of Stafford, and Vincent Catania of Longmeadow; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Mary also leaves her brother and sister in-law Carmen and Pat Scalia, of FL. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Bottaro and sister-in-law, Lucy Scalia both of Enfield and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was pre-deceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Marie and Austin Grady; her son-in-law, Richard Tinto; her brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Elaine Scalia; brothers Joseph, Frank and Anthony (Tony) Scalia; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Bottaro.

Mary's family would like to especially express their sincere gratitude to Heidi, Pat, Elizabeth, Diane, Kim, and Maria at the Suffield House for the loving care given to their mother as well as to the rest of the nursing home staff. Mary's family will receive relatives and friends at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services in celebration of Mary's life will he held on Saturday, February 16th at 9:00AM from Browne Chapels followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM in Holy Family Church, 23 Simon Rd, Enfield. Burial will be in St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery Enfield. Memorials may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Attn: Tribute Gifts, Church Street Station, P.O.
