Mary Strom Obituary

Mary Lou (Mistretta) Strom passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family on Dec. 26, 2006. The daughter of the late John & Mary (Siranni) Mistretta of Enfield. Mary Lou graduated from St. Joseph's Grammar School and then Enfield High School in 1961. She attended Manchester Community College; Asnuntuk Community College and the University of CT where she received her CCMA in 1977.

Mary Lou was employed as the assistant town assessor in Enfield from 1975-1978. She was the Granby Town Assessor for 14 years until her retirement in 1992 and was a past president of the Connecticut Assessors Association.

Mary Lou was a life long resident of Enfield. She served the town she loved in many capacities, as a member of the town council for 14 years including 6 years as mayor, from 1995 to 2001. Her dedication to her community was evidenced by appointment to many councils and committees, such as several State Governor's Blue Ribbon Commissions and Capitol Region Councils and a recipient of the Enfield Rotary Club distinguished Paul Harris Award.

She had a tremendous love of life and unending compassion for those in needs. She dedicated her time and directed her efforts to many charitable organizations, such as the Network against Domestic Abuse, and the after School Program of Enfield.

Left to cherish her memory are; her daughter Lisa Strom of Enfield, her son Christian Strom and his wife Eileen of Portland, CT and the joys of her life, her grand children, Peter, William, Claire and Teddy. Mary Lou also leaves her brother Joseph Mistretta and sister-in-law Gerry, her three sisters Ann Burnham and husband Stephen of Stoneham, MA, Margaret Perry and husband Sherwood of Enfield, Lynn Cade and husband Keith of Middlefield, CT. and an uncle Albert Siranni and his wife Rosalie of Thoms River, NJ and many nieces, nephews and beloved cousins.

Mary Lou's family will receive relatives and friends Friday (Dec. 29, 2006) from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT. A mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday 10:00 am at St. Patrick Church. Funeral procession will form 9:00 am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Patrick King St. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the: American Cancer Society 538 Preston Ave. PO Box 1004 Meriden, CT 06450-1004.
