Matthew "Matt" Pliszka

Matthew “Matt” E. Pliszka, 86, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest, on Monday (July 21, 2014) at Johnson Memorial Medical Ctr., Stafford Springs, CT. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Alice M. (Sheff) Pliszka. Matthew was born on July 10, 1928 in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, son to the late Frank & Helen (Pawelec) Pliszka. He was a lifelong resident of Enfield. Matt proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Prior to retiring in 1992 Matt was employed by Hamilton Standard/Sundstrand for 36 years and with Bigelow Sanford Carpet Co. before that. In his earlier years Matt played minor league baseball as a catcher with the Philadelphia Phillies and He devoted over 30 years in assisting in the operations of the Enfield Adult Park & Recreation basketball league. He was inducted into the Enfield Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 and was a member of the John Maciolek Post 154 American Legion, Enfield. Matt is survived by his two sons, Richard Pliszka & his wife Brenda of East Hartford, and Robert Pliszka & Catherine of Enfield, his four grandchildren the pride & joy of his life; Jonathan, Ashley, Jennifer and Christopher Pliszka, along with his nephews, Mark Pliszka & Keith Pliszka and their families. Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Wednesday (July 23, 2014) from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday (July 24, 2014) at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial with military honors in the Hazardville Cemetery, in Enfield. In lieu flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Suffield House Resident Recreation Program, 1 Canal Rd. Suffield, CT 06078.
