Melvin “Mr. Mel” P. Seelig, 85, of Enfield, entered into Eternal Rest on Friday May 5, 2017 at Johnson Memorial Medical Ctr. Stafford Springs. Melvin was born on Dec. 6, 1931 in Reidsville, NC, to the late George H. and Evelyn (Liese) Seelig and grew up in Lansdale, PA, he had resided in Enfield for 55 years and in Hartford before that. Mel served his country honorably with the U. S. Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Having moved to Connecticut as a young man during which time he met and married his wife Earlene (Rivers) Seelig. They were married nearly 37 years upon her passing in 1999. Prior to retiring in 1998 Mel was employed as a custodian with Hallmark Cards, Inc. for 17 years and a machine operator with Stevens Paper Mill before that for many years. He was a member of the VFW and First Baptist Church, Enfield, where he was very active. In his leisure-time Mel enjoyed reading and was a huge history buff. Mel is survived by his two children a son Curtis Seelig of Broad Brook and a daughter Melanie Seelig of Enfield. He is also survived by four siblings; Norman Miller, Lucille Smith, Elizabeth Seelig and George K. Seelig, along with many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his eleven siblings; David Seelig, Betty Vella, Shirley Ouellette, Oliver Seelig, Curtis Miller, Clark Seelig, Gerry Burns, Warren Seelig, Thomas Dyer, John A. Seelig and George H. Seelig, Jr. His family would like to especially thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors at St. Francis & Johnson Memorial Medical Center who provided such great care for their father. Relatives and friends may gather with his family on Wednesday May 10, 2017 during calling hours from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service at the First Baptist Church 253 Brainard Rd. Enfield. Burial will be held on Thursday May 11, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Pittsfield Cemetery, 203 Wahconah St. Pittsfield, MA.
