Mercy (Butz) Cote Obituary

Mercy L. (Butz) Cote, 73, of Enfield, beloved wife of Raymond Cote, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday (July 15, 2011). She was born September 7, 1937 in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Frederick and Margarate (Bortle) Butz and had been a resident of Enfield for 45 years. Having grown up in Windsor, Mercy graduated Windsor High School in 1955. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at Yankee Gas Services Company. Mercy attended Hazardville United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She shared a love of travel with her husband Ray, and they spent many winters together at their place in Myrtle Beach. Mercy was a devoted grandmother, and could often be seen accompanied by her dog Coco. She was an avid reader and loved to bake. In addition to her husband Ray, she is survived by her three children, Michael Bidmead and his wife, Lorie of Somers, Melissa Quinn and her husband Kevin of Newington and David Bidmead and his wife Kristine of Canton, two step-children, Sharon McCabe and her partner Roger Kimball of Springfield, MA and Steven Cote of South Hadley, MA, four grandchildren, Britney, Taylor, Drew and Jessica, and several nieces and nephews. Mercy was predeceased by her sister Myrna Cook. Her family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff at the Suffield House for the kind and compassionate care given to Mercy and appreciation for all their support. Friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Wednesday (July 20, 2011) from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services in celebration of Mercy’s life will be held on Thursday (July 21, 2011) at 11:00 am at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels with the Rev. David Williams officiating followed by interment in the Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the SPCA of Connecticut, 359 Spring Hill Rd. Monroe, CT 06468 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011
