Mervin J. Cooley, Sr. of Enfield entered into eternal life at the age of 88 on Wednesday July 29, 2009 at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 40 years to Delia (Shaw) Cooley. Mervin was born on May 24, 1921 in Springfield, MA son of the late Edward and Mabel Cooley and resided most of his life in Somers and the Hazardville section of Enfield. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during W.W. II. Prior to his retirement in 1986 he was employed for 25 years with Bridges Manufacturing Co. in Hazardville and during retirement worked at Stop & Shop in Enfield. He enjoyed being around and meeting people, was always happy and enjoyed his life to the fullest, loved to joke around, enjoyed camping and loved his dog, Lucky. Besides his wife, Delia, Mervin is survived by his son, Mervin J. Cooley, Jr. & wife, Frances of Granby, daughter, Diana Jordan & husband, David of Rocky Hill, son, Leslie K. Spencer & wife, Toni of Enfield, son, Roby Spencer & wife, Maria of Enfield and daughter, Darlene Williams of Enfield, his 9 beloved grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his brother, Arbra Cooley and two sisters, Marion O'Brien and Idele DeGrey.
Funeral services for Mervin will be held on Saturday Aug. 1, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield followed by burial with military honors in the Hazardville Cemetery. His family will receive relatives and friend on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Service. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Johnson Memorial Hospital C/O of Nursing Scholarships 201 Chestnut Hill Rd. Stafford Springs, CT 06076.
