Patrick J. Griffin, Jr. 75, of Enfield passed away peacefully on Tuesday Jan. 17, 2012 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Pat was born on Feb. 11, 1936 in Warren, RI, son of the late Patrick and Margaret (Incollingo) Griffin. Raised in Warren and Hartford, CT he was a longtime resident of Enfield. He was predeceased by his wife Martha “Marty” (Lewandoski) Griffin. Pat served his country for 42 years with the 103rd Fighter Wing of the ANG and USAF retiring as SMSGT. He was a lifelong member of the North Thompsonville Fire Dept. retiring as a Captain and continuing to serve as a commissioner for the district. He was a charter member of Healthtrax becoming their very first member. An avid racquetball player, he enjoyed all sports especially UCONN Basketball, the NY Giants and the Boston Red Sox. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and jaunts to the casino. He was a communicant of St. Adalbert Church. He is survived by his 3 sons and daughters-in-law; Stephen and Karen Lewandoski of East Granby, James and Kim Griffin of Enfield, Michael and Florence Griffin of Enfield; 2 daughters Jean Griffin of Burlington, KY and Sally Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA; his partner and best friend Janice Lewandoski of Enfield, his 5 beloved grandchildren; Joseph Vaughn of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Laura Vaughn of Enfield, Patrick Griffin of Enfield, Carole Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA, and Samantha Lewandoski of East Granby and a great grandson; Aiden Vaughn of KY. He also leaves 2 “sisters” Christine McNeill of West Hartford and Carolyn Woodruff of Hawaii. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Peter Schauer, his nurse Annie and the staff of the Gray Cancer Center as well as his homecare staff from Masonicare his nurse Eileen and his aide Liz for their wonderful and compassionate care. Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday (January 20, 2012) at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Sat. Jan. 21, 2012 with the funeral procession forming at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home to St. Adalbert Church 90 Alden Ave. Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, it was Pat’s wish that memorial donations be made to the North Thompsonville Fireman’s Benevolent Association 439 Enfield St. Enfield, CT 06082.
