Paul Stroich

Paul M. Stroich, 85, of Enfield, passed away on Thursday April 12, 2007 due to complications following surgery. Paul was born on Aug. 31, 1921 in Fairmont, W. Virginia son of the late Stephen and Anna Stroich and was raised on a farm near Sherburne, NY and had resided in Enfield since 1955. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the late Olga (Shust) Stroich who passed in March 2004. Paul is survived by his son, Paul M. Stroich, Jr. Major, USAF, Retired and his fianc饬 Georgia Hudson of Tucson, AZ; his daughter, Sandra Mathews and her husband, Richard of Canyon Lake, CA; his precious granddaughter, Katarina Mathews, whom he dearly loved. He also leaves a brother, Steve of Colchester, a sister, Olga of Hartford and many nieces and nephews. Paul served his country honorably as Flight Engineer/Gunner on a B-24 Liberator Bomber with the 328th Bomb Squadron, 93rd Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, England, during WW II. He flew 30 missions over Germany occupied Europe, including the first daylight raid on Berlin, from Feb.? Jun. 1944, when only 1 of 3 heavy bomber crews completed their tour. Paul proudly wore the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon among others, rising to rank of Technical Sergeant.<br>Paul?s hobbies were bowling, golfing, UCONN Basketball, and most of all fly fishing for trout. His niece, Dee Dee Cameron of Moravia, NY made him a NASCAR racing fan. Prior to his retirement in 1985, Paul was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, East Hartford for 40 years in the experimental department/955, as an engineer mechanic and later as the head of rotating machinery and the balancing section. <br>Paul?s family will receive relatives and friends on Wed. Apr. 18, 2007 from 5 to 8pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral Services will be held on Thurs. morning at 11am from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Patrick?s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. <br>
