Peter Targonski

Peter S. Targonski, 75 of Enfield, entered into eternal life on Tues. Feb. 6, 2007 at Baystate Medical Ctr., Springfield, MA. Pete was the beloved husband of 51 yrs to Joan M. (Marszalek) Targonski. He was born on Jan. 31, 1932 in Whately, MA son of the late Frank and Stella (Zajkowski) Targonski and had resided in Enfield for the past 49 years and in Indian Orchard prior to that. He was a graduate of Springfield Trade School Class of 1949. <br>Pete served his country honorably with the US Army in September 1950 during the Inchon Landing with Hq. & Hq. Co. 32nd Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division in Korea. He also fought at the Chosin Reservoir. In 1953 he joined the MA National Guard and in 1966 joined the CT National Guard in the HQ. & HQ. Company, 43rd Brigade; also serving at the same time as an assistant instructor in Land Navigation at OCS Military Academy. He also served in &quot;A&quot; Battery, 192nd Field Artillery, during which he received 6 Army Achievement Medals and 2 Army Accommodation Medals. In March 1988, he was assigned to the Training Site Support Detachment at Camp Weicker. After completing 42 years in the National Guard, he retired in 1992 as Post command SGM.<br>Pete was a member of the AARP, American Legion John Maciolek Post 154, Chosin Few N.E. Chapter, Life member of the Disabled American Veterans, Korean American Veterans, Enfield Knights of Columbus, Council 50, & William P. Kilcoyne 4th Degree Assembly, National Assoc. of Retired Federal Employees, 104th Infantry Retirees, Society of Polish American Culture, National Guard Assoc. of CT and Pursuer-Enfield Detection of Thieves and Robbers.<br>Prior to his retirement in 1986 Pete was employed by the Westover AFB, Chicopee, MA for over 20 years and before that he worked at the Springfield Armory, for many years. Pete's passion for woodworking had him making many crafts of which you would find at many craft fairs & shows throughout the area. He was an avid UCONN Huskies women's basketball fan and enjoyed time with family & friends especially his grandchildren.<br>Besides his beloved wife, Joan, Pete leaves behind to cherish fond memories his loving family; a son, John P. Targonski of W. Springfield, MA, a son, David S. Targonski & his wife, Grace of Red Lion, PA, his seven beloved grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, MaryEllen, Colleen, Elizabeth, Peter and Cara, he also leaves a sister, Frances Pagella and husband, Raymond of Springfield, MA, two brothers, Edwin Targonski and wife, Judy of Chicopee, MA and Leonard Targonski of Ryegate, VT, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Sylvester Targonski.<br>Funeral services in celebration of Pete's life will be held on Friday Feb. 9, 2007 at 9am from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Adalbert's Church. Interment with military honors will take place in St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Enfield. Pete's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday Feb. 8, 2007 from 3 to 5pm & 7 to 9pm at Browne Funeral Chapels. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Enfield Community Ambulance Fund, Inc. P.O. Box 1249 Enfield, CT 06083-1249 or to St. Adalbert's Church 90 Alden Ave. Enfield, CT 06082.
