Philip Holden

Philip Lincoln Holden, 95, died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at the Seabury Campus in<br>Bloomfield, Connecticut. He was born May 17, 1910 in Milton, Massachusetts where he grew up and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout Phil graduated from Milton High School in 1927 and Dartmouth College cum laude in 1931 as a business major at Tuck School. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the Dartmouth Outing Club. Philip served his country honorably with the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II. <br>Phil married Elizabeth Stearns (Lib) Arnold, of Milton, Massachusetts in 1934. Together they raised a family of three daughters in Wellesley, where they lived from 1937 to 1975. Phil was employed with New England Mutual Life Insurance Co. for 44 years until his retirement as a Vice President in Policyholder Services.<br>After retirement Phil and Lib spent summers in Grantham, NH and winters in Periwinkle Park on Sanibel, FL. They were active members and deacons of both the Sanibel and Wellesley Congregational Churches. Lib died in 1987.<br>In 1990 Phil married Marjorie Waterman of Glastonbury, Ct. and Sanibel. Phil and Marjorie continued to winter on Sanibel until 2000 and summered at Seabury. Phil loved Sanibel for its abundance of natural beauty. He was an avid birdwatcher and volunteered at SCCF for several years. Marjorie died in October 2002.<br>Phil is survived by his three daughters: Deborah Franz and her husband Peter of Cheshire, Mass., Meredith Nicholson of Enfield, Ct., and Holly Bealmear and her husband Brad of Periwinkle Park, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.<br>A memorial service will be held on July 31, 2005 at 1pm from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT. Interment will take place on Monday Aug. 1, in the Milton Cemetery, Milton, MA. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, 3333 San-Cap Road, Sanibel FL 33957.<br>
