Raymond Buiniskas Obituary

Raymond P. Buiniskas, beloved husband of 60 years to Maria (Alaimo) Buiniskas entered into Eternal Life on Friday Jan. 13, 2006 at home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on Jan. 30, 1922 in Enfield the son of the late Anthony and Antonia Buiniskas and was a lifelong resident of the community. Raymond served his country valiantly with the US Army during WW II, Battle of the Bulge, Tunisia Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Ardennes. He received many medals and citations, Good Conduct Medal, WW II Victory Medal, Purple Heart with 1 oak leaf cluster & 6 Bronze Stars, Bronze Arrowhead, Infantry badge and the European Africian Middle Eastern theatre service medal. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day and he has said; he still doesn't know how they took the beach. Raymond was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans CT Chapter 12, John Maciolek Post 154 American Legion, a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, lifetime charter member of the WWII Memorial Society, member of B.P.O.E Elks Lodge 2222, Enfield and St. Bernard's Church. Prior to his retirement in 1984 Raymond was employed for 35 years as a clerk in the Thompsonville Post Office.
Raymond was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed. Besides his wife, Maria, he is survived by a son; David Buiniskas & wife, Jacquelyn of S. Kingstown, RI, two daughters; Deborah Gardner & husband, William of Somers and Nancy Shanahan & husband, Joseph of S. Kingstown, RI, five grandchildren; Christopher Buiniskas & Sandra Blossom of Stafford, Sean and Scott Gardner of Somers, Maria and Alexa Shanahan of S. Kingstown, RI, a great granddaughter; Alicia Buiniskas, many nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews and many friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by three brothers; Francis, Alex and Anthony and two sisters; Viola and Margaret. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Sandra Blossom and all the Hospice workers at Home & Community Healthcare, especially Susan Arnold for their loving care and support.
Funeral services in celebration of Raymond's life will be held on Friday Jan. 20, 2006 at 9:30am from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am in St. Bernard's Church, Enfield. Interment with military honors by the John Maciolek Post 154 American Legion will take place in St. Patrick's King St. Cemetery. Raymond's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 to 8pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. In lieu of flowers memorial donations maybe made to the Raymond P. Buiniskas Scholarship Fund C/O the John Maciolek Post 154 American Legion P.O. Box 154 Enfield, CT 06083-0154.
