Raymond "Ray" P. Shelanskas Obituary

Raymond “Ray” P. Shelanskas, of Suffield, beloved husband of Rose (Vella) Shelanskas for 61 years, passed away on Tuesday January 5, 2016. He was born on November 3, 1930 in Enfield, the son of John and Anna (Yukna) Shelanskas. Ray was a proud Navy veteran who always got teary eyed at parades. He was employed at Stanadyne in Windsor as a foreman for 40 years. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed music and loved to eat his wife’s cooking. His favorite vacations included fishing at Cape Cod and hunting in Vermont at the Sikes’ family camp. Ray was a big fan of the New York Yankees and UCONN basketball, and he enjoyed playing cards and making trips to the casino. Ray liked to have a good time and make memories with friends and family.

Raymond leaves behind his devoted wife Rose, his daughter Carol Bartus and her husband Ed of Enfield, his son John Shelanskas and his wife Lisa of Suffield; his cherished grandsons Steven Bartus and his fiancée Thishani Nadesan, Brian Bartus, Aaron Shelanskas and his girlfriend Melissa Bove, David Shelanskas and Mark Shelanskas. He also leaves two sisters-in-law Louise Desrocher and Elaine Shelanskas along with many nieces and nephews. Ray is predeceased by his brothers Anthony and Robert Shelanskas and his sister Eleanor Valickus. Ray’s family would like to thank all of those who assisted in his care.

Ray’s family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday Jan. 9, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. in St. Patrick Church, corners of High & Pearl Street, Enfield.
