Richard E. Stewart, 77, of Enfield, loving husband of Vivian (Gibson) Stewart entered eternal peace, on Monday April 16, 2007. Richard was born in Schuylerville, NY the son of the late Clifford and Maxine (Hinckley) Stewart and resided in Enfield for the past 46 years. He served his country honorably with the US Army during the Korean War and was recently awarded the CT Wartime Veterans Service Medal. Richard was a graduate of UCONN and received his Master Degree in Education from Eastern CT State College. Richard taught in the Suffield and South Windsor School Systems for over 30 years. He was a member and past president of the Suffield Education Assoc.; member of the Board of Advisors of Asnuntuck Community College; member of the Board of Directors of the Tobacco Valley Teachers Federal Credit Union; certified CT state Instructor of fishing with the CARE Program; was an assistant Boy Scout Leader of Troop 182 and Leader of Troop 185; member of the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow; past Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 2222; and a longtime member of the Hazardville United Methodist Church, Enfield. He was a loyal fan of the NY Yankee's and UCONN Basketball teams.
Besides his wife of 54 years, Richard is survived by his loving family; a daughter, Deborah (Stewart) Ferrari of Ellington, a son, Richard E. Stewart, Jr. of Woodstock, a son, Daniel Stewart & his wife, Heather of Enfield, a daughter, Kim (Stewart) Garrity & her husband, Michael of Lakeland, FL, his four beloved grandchildren, Michael Stewart, Jenn Stewart, Tony Ferrari and Joseph Ferrari. He is also survived by two brothers, Ronald Stewart & his wife, Shirley of South Windsor and Rodman Stewart & his wife, Linda of Lexington, KY along with many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Friday April 20, 2007 at 10:00am at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield with the Rev. Carol Stein officiating followed by interment with military honors in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield. His family will receive relatives and friends on Thurs. Apr. 19, from 4 to 7pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Hazardville United Methodist Church, 330 Hazard Ave. Enfield, CT 06082.
