Robert "Bob" E. Blighton's earthly journey ended peacefully on Monday July 20, 2009 at the age of 62 in the comfort of his home in Suffield. He was born on April 3, 1947 in Emmetsburg, Iowa the son of the late Ernest and Florence (Whalen) Blighton and had resided in Suffield for the past 21 years. After attending and graduating from high school in Ruthven, IA Bob went on to serve his country honorably with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his discharge he began working for Tom's Plumbing and Heating where he acquired his journeyman's license. Soon after he would open his own business, Blighton Plumbing and Heating in Spencer, Iowa. Through his 1st 8 years in Connecticut he was employed by Crest Mechanical of Hartford. After a brief period with Boulanger's Plumbing and Heating of Easthampton, MA Bob's career path brought him to Action Air Systems in Manchester, CT. Over the past 12 years he dedicated himself to estimating and managing commercial construction projects for Action Air. Bob's contributions to Suffield Little League ranged from sitting on the board, lining the base paths for opening day, coaching, and umpiring. He was also an active volunteer for Suffield Travel Soccer. Other charitable endeavors included assisting his wife with annual auctions held by the Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools. Bob was a member of The First Church of Christ Congregational.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Carolyn (Thomson) Blighton, his beloved son, Andrew T. Blighton of Boston, beloved daughter, Christal A. Blighton and beloved son, Scott E. Blighton both of Suffield. He is also survived by a brother, Ray Blighton and his wife, Vivian of Wellington, CO, a sister, Linda Larson and her husband, Todd of Randolf, WI, a niece, Melissa Working and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Joe Blighton, two infant brothers and a nephew, Brian Jacobsen. The Blighton family will receive relatives and friends at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield on Friday July 24, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 25 in The First Church of Christ Congregational 81 High St. Suffield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Suffield Volunteer Ambulance 205 Bridge St. Suffield, CT 06078 or the Suffield Little League C/O Bill Clark P.O. Box 724 Suffield, CT 06078.
