Robert "Bob" LaBrecque

Robert “Bob” Thomas LaBrecque, 88, passed away peacefully at his son’s home in Belchertown, Massachusetts on Saturday Oct. 11, 2014 with his family and loved ones by his side. Born in Somersville, Connecticut on June 17, 1926, he was the son of the late Leo and Bertha “Mamie” (Monstello) LaBrecque. Bob was predeceased by his first wife Catherine (Crowe) LaBrecque who he was married to for 56 years in 2006. He proudly served his country as a Marine during World War II being commissioned on the USS Ticonderoga Air Craft in 1943 as a gunner, fighting in the Pacific Theatre. Bob was wounded in action on January 21,1945 and received the Purple Heart. After the war he played hockey with the Somersville Team which won the industrial league title many times and was league all-star defenseman. He loved the Red Sox, N.E. Patriots; UConn Women’s Basketball and was a season’s ticket holder for the Hartford Whalers until he moved from Enfield, CT in 1991 to Sun City Center, Florida where he became a Tampa Bay Lightning fan. Bob was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 50, Enfield and former permit tee; he was a Life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1288, and a member of Cypress Greens Country Club. He worked for Otis Elevator for 25 years and finished his career at Hamilton Standard. He leaves his wife Margaret “Peggy” (White) Soucy LaBrecque, his children Brian LaBrecque and his wife Doris of Belchertown, MA, Lynn Osborn and her husband Chuck of East Hartland, CT, and Sharon LaBrecque of Dunedin, FL, his grandchildren; Lauren Mazzoli and her husband T.J., Ian Osborn, Kevin LaBrecque, Colleen Osborn Montenegro and her husband Diego, Katie Dandarand and her husband Nathan, and Jennifer Dasnaw and her husband Jay, his great grandchildren; Enzo Mazzoli, Hailey and Nathan Dasnaw and Brandon and Kayla Dandarand, his brother-in-law George Crowe of Holyoke, MA, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and most humble man who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone who knew him. He will be missed dearly. We are grateful for all the care he received in his last months from the Baystate V.N.A and Hospice. His family will receive relatives and friends during calling hours on Friday Oct. 17, 2014 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, a Mass of Christian Burial for Bob will be celebrated on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernard Church 426 Hazard Ave. Enfield, Rites of Committal with military honors will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Enfield. Those wishing to honor his memory may make a donation to the Baystate V.N.A. & Hospice 50 Maple St. Springfield, MA 01102.
