Ruth C. Snyder, R.N. of Enfield CT and formerly of Hillsdale NJ, died peacefully April 6, 2008 at Johnson Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 9, 1924 to the late Albert E. and Lorena R. Catterall, in New Bedford MA. She is predeceased by her sister Erline E. Rathje, and husbands William S. Howland MD and Richard Snyder. Ruth graduated from New Bedford High School, earned her R.N. at Columbia University School of Nursing in NY, her BS in School Nursing and her Masters in Human Development from Fairleigh Dickinson University in NJ. She worked as an emergency room nurse at Grady Hospital in Atlanta GA before becoming the long time school nurse at Pascack Valley Regional High School in Hillsdale, NJ. Ruth was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching Uconn Women's Basketball, golf, tennis and horseracing. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Karen H. Falk and her husband Peter, and her son William S. Howland and Lois Forestieri; her grandchildren Kristen R. Falk of Corvallis OR, Michael W. Falk of Enfield; her cousin Clarice Aspin of CA, and many friends in NJ, where she had lived for 43 years. The Family wishes to thank Timothy Fignar MD and his staff, Parkway Pavilion Healthcare, the Johnson Memorial ICU and Third Floor nurses and Hospice for all of the excellent care that Ruth received. Calling hours will be Friday, April 11 from 5pm to 8pm at Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield CT. The Funeral Service will be Saturday April 12 at 11:00am at Browne Memorial Chapels. Interment will be in St Patrick's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made, in her name, to the Enfield Central Library Children's Department, 104 Middle Road, Enfield CT 06082.
