Samuel "Sam" Barnett

Samuel “Sam” J. Barnett, entered into eternal rest at the age of 79 after a long illness at Redstone Rehab & Nursing Center, E. Longmeadow, MA. Sam was the beloved husband of Betty P. (DeGray) Barnett and son of the late Mary Jane Barnett. He was born on May 19, 1930 in Hartford, CT and had resided in Enfield for the past 59 years. He served his country honorably with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War and was a member to the Army National Guard. Prior to his retirement many years ago Sam was employed with UTC/Hamilton Standard for over 25 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed working with wood, as a result he created several piece of furniture, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grand children. Besides his wife Betty of 59 years Sam was the loving father: to Joyce Chevalier of Enfield, Patricia Caruthers of Ellington, John Barnett of Tolland and Michael Barnett of Enfield, his 12 beloved grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Sam is also survived by a sister Mary E. Palenza of E. Hartford along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Service in celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Thursday March 25, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield with Fr. Ed Goetz officiating, followed by military honors. Relatives and friends may gather with his family prior to the service from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Interment will be at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Town of Enfield EMS 1296 Enfield St. Enfield, CT 06082, Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, MA 01104-2396 or CT Children’s Hospital and Medical Center 282 Washington St. Hartford, CT 06106.
