Shirley Mary (Thans) Augusto, of Enfield, entered into eternal life at the age of 87 on Monday, September 3, 2012 in the comfort of her home with loved ones at her side. Shirley was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Jose “Joe” Augusto (2008) and daughter of the late George and Mary E. (Dowd) Thans and had resided in Enfield for the past 54 years. Prior to retiring in 1990 Shirley was employed as a bookkeeper with Mott’s Shop Rite Supermarkets for 20 years. She was a significant volunteer throughout Enfield, mainly with St. Martha Church & School. Shirley’s life revolved around her family and home and was also a mother to all her children’s friends who entered the Augusto home. She was a fantastic seamstress, great cook and enjoyed reading. Shirley is survived by her five loving children: George R. LaVoice & wife Vicki, Leslie A. Nelson & husband Paul, Val Mikels, Wayne D. Augusto & wife Heidi, and Paul V. Augusto; her three beloved grandchildren: Matthew V. LaVoice & wife Tammi, Damian J. LaVoice & wife Valerie, and Mary C. Hill & husband Undra; two great-grandchildren, Jordan & Danika and her sister, Arlene F. “Sally” Donahue. Besides her husband and parents she was predeceased by two brothers, George R. Thans, Jr. during WW II and Charles F. Thans. Family and friends will gather on Sunday, September 9, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. The funeral procession will form by 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home on Monday, September 10, 2012 and proceed to St. Martha Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery in Enfield.
