Shirley Cicoria Obituary

Shirley (Toler) Cicoria, 72, of Enfield passed away on Monday (Dec.. 8, 2014). She was born on July 9, 1942 in Oceana WV, the daughter of the late Ulvert and Agnes Toler. She had resided in Enfield since 1970 and was married to Daniel “Chic” Cicoria for 29 years, who predeceased her in 1995. She is survived by her sons Daniel and Michael & daughter-in-law Tracy, her grandson Andrew Cicoria, her daughter Kathleen &son-in-law Robert Doak, all of Enfield. She is also survived by her brothers Ulvert Jackson Toler of Fairdale, WV and Ronnie Toler of Oceana, WV, along with several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two brothers Homer and Rodney, as well as two sisters Helen and Janice. During the majority of her working career, she was employed at the corporate offices of Edwards Super Food Stores, eventually becoming Pricing Manager. She carried on this position at the sister company Giant Food Stores in Carlisle, PA for 2 years, partially residing in Mechanicsburg during that time. In her leisure time, she was an avid reader and crime show watcher, enjoyed gardening, loved the beach and vacationing in NH, WV, TN, and SC with family and friends. She had a wit that could stun a taser, a knack for calling things exactly as she saw them, and an ability to create a magical marinara sauce that will go down in history. Her coleslaw and potato salad recipes were also legendary – attempted by many but surpassed by none. Above all she was a great mom and friend to her children. Her wisdom, advice strength, and gracious spirit leave us forever grateful for the blessing of having such a positive force to guide us through this life. Relatives and friends may gather with her calling on Thursday (Dec. 11, 2014) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor George Heiland officiating at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Interment will take place on Friday (Dec. 12), at 11:00 a.m. in the Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield (go directly to the cemetery). Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Dakin Humane Society 171 Union St. Springfield, MA 01105.
