Obituary
Sister Mary Evangeline Lupinski, 84, a Felician Sister for 65 years, died in Holy Family Infirmary, Enfield, CT on May 22. Sister Evangeline (Cecilia) was the youngest of eight children of the late Casimir and Stella (Dabrowska) Lupinski of Florida, NY. After completing her elementary education at St. Joseph School there, she entered the juniorate of the Felician Sisters in Lodi, NJ. Sister entered the postulancy in 1943 in Enfield, was invested with the Franciscan habit in 1944 and made her first profession of vows in 1945. In 1951, Sister Evangeline pronounced her perpetual vows. Sister Evangeline ministered for more than 50 years as a teacher, including five years in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In preparation for this work, she earned a bachelor's degree in education from Catholic Teacher's College, Providence, RI. She taught in the dioceses of Albany, NY, Boston, MA, Burlington, VT, Hartford, CT, Norwich, CT, Springfield, MA, and Worcester, MA.
Upon her retirement from full-time teaching in 1997, she continued working on a part-time basis as a math tutor. Since 2003, she has been engaged in ministry to the homebound at St. Stanislaus Parish, Amsterdam, NY. In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were five brothers, Walter, John, Bernard, Stanley and Ignatius, and two sisters, Eva, and Jean Quinn. Surviving are nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Our Lady of the Angels Provincial House, 1315 Enfield Street, Enfield, from 2-4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 25. A wake service at 4:30 p.m. will include Evening Praise. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Commendation will follow at St. Adalbert's Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Felician Sisters Retirement Fund would be appreciated.
