STEVEN A. PIERZ, SR. of Suffield, passed from his earthly journey at the age of 87, peacefully in the comfort of his home and went on to be reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Giovannina “Nina” Yolanda (D’Amato) Pierz, on Thursday (July 14, 2011). He was born on May 13, 1924 in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, a son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Smolen) Pierz; growing up in Enfield he attended local and trade schools. He resided in the local area most of his life and for a short time in New Hampshire. Before retiring in 1984 Steven was employed for 30 years with the Fuller Brush Co., West Hartford, 8 years with SA Felton Brush, Manchester, NH and owned Hardy Brush Co., Suffield for 20 years. During his political venue he was a member of the first Town Council in Enfield as Councilman from ’62-‘64 and served as Mayor from ’64-’66. As Mayor he dedicated the Suffield-Enfield Bridge. In his younger years he was very involved with the baseball leagues of Enfield consisting of the Babe Ruth, farm teams and little leagues. Steven served as Chairman of the Enfield Library Board and its Board of Directors for the Enfield Carnage Library. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus Council 50 in Enfield. Steven was also Chairman of the Prudence-Crandall School Building Committee, and was a Commissioner with the Shaker Pines Fire Department. He was a member of St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. Steven’s greatest joy in Life was his Love for his family: he is survived by his two sons Steven Pierz, and his wife Mary of Enfield, and Scott A. Pierz of China, Maine; his two beloved granddaughters Erin Pierz-Gaudet and her husband Mark, and Eileen L. Pierz and great grandchildren Evan Mathew, Emmalie Shae, Avery Anne and MacKenzie Ann. He is also survived by his sister Sophie Krzys of Enfield along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, and his special Godchild Barbara (Maiuri) O’Brien. He was also predeceased by his two brothers Henry and Adam Pierz and three sisters Celia Rivard, Jane Liucci, and Josephine Piotrowski. Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Tuesday (July 19, 2011) from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (July 20, 2011) with the procession forming at 9:00 am at the funeral home to St. Adalbert's Church 90 Alden Ave. for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Steven’s life. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Bernard’s School 232 Pearl St. Enfield, CT 06082.
