Richard Gagnon Obituary

Richard N. Gagnon, 83, husband of Agnes (Phillips) Gagnon of Glastonbury, passed away March 4, 2016 peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. He was born in Pittsfield, MA, son of the late Leo and Blanche (Lauren) Gagnon. Richard graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in 1954 and later received his Master’s Degree from RPI, Hartford. Prior to his retirement, Richard was an Engineer specializing in control systems, working with fuel cells while with United Technologies. His job allowed him to work on many forward projects, such as the space program. His work allowed him to travel the world. In his travels he made many friends. In high school, he was nominated and attended Boy State of Massachusetts. Richard had a passion for woodworking, skiing and reading and was proud of the two patents he held. He was a longtime member and past President of the Exchange club, Scoutmaster of Troop 134 of Glastonbury, taught CCD and was a member of the St. Paul Church Parish Council. In his retirement, he enjoyed travelling and exploring new worlds with his wife. Besides his wife, Agnes, he is survived by his two sons and two daughters, Nancy Kalos and her husband Stephen of Unionville, Raymond Gagnon and his wife Catherine of Glastonbury, Robert Gagnon and his wife Lisa of Glastonbury and Jeanine Baxter and her husband William (Bart) of New Hartford. Richard also leaves a brother, Lawrence Gagnon and his wife Beverly of Cumming, GA and his ten grandchildren, Brenden and Devon Michaelis, Alex and Jake Gagnon, Margot, Jacqueline and Garrett Gagnon, Tucker and Tyler Kreh and Liam Baxter. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Gagnon and his wife Shirley. The Gagnon family would like to extend thanks to the staff of the Marlborough Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hartford Hospital Healthcare, Drs. Stuart S. Kessler and Jeffrey M. Kamradt, and Michelle from Masonicare. Friends may pay their respects to the Gagnon family Wednesday March 9, 2016 from 4-7 PM at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Naubuc Ave., Glastonbury. The funeral will be held Thursday March 10, 2016 at 9:15 am from the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St. Glastonbury.
