Wendell Ross

Wendell B. Ross died peacefully on July 6, 2014 at 3:00pm while holding the hand of his loving wife, Solange . Born in Kirksville, Missouri to Marietta and Crawford B. Ross on December 30, 1936, his family later moved to Wichita, Kansas. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan he returned to Wichita, where he started a family and was employed as a talented technical illustrator for Boeing Aircraft Corporation. In the early 1970’s Mr. Ross built one of the first barn home conversions in the United States with noted barn expert Richard Babcock. This prompted collaboration with Mr. Babcock that led to several widely published designs. While living in the Berkshires, Mr. Ross became the manager of the design and technical illustration department for General Electric. In 1976, he was one of General Electric's “Men of the Year”. His tenure at General Electric, later General Dynamics lasted over 25 years until his retirement. Mr. Ross resided in Pittsfield and Holyoke, MA, and Avon, CT. An avid and lifelong fisherman, he was fond of the sea. Among his favorite places were Cape Ann, Welfleet, on Cape Cod, Westbrook, CT and Watch Hill, RI. After suffering a stroke in January of 2011, he lived his remaining years at Glastonbury Health Care Center, Glastonbury, CT where he passed. Mr. Ross is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of eight years, Solange, his four children, Daniel, Christopher, David and Elizabeth Ross, three siblings, and five grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. At a private ceremony later in the month, Mr. Ross’ ashes will be brought to the sea by his children and his wife. The Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, Glastonbury has care of the arrangements.
