TORRINGTON - Nellie (Gelormino) Saporite died peacefully in the Supportive Care Unit at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital on Monday, November 12, 2012. She was 89 years old. A life-long Torrington resident, Nellie was born on June 13, 1923 to first generation Italian immigrants, Carmine and Angelina (Maraia) Gelormino. She worked at the Torrington Company and later provided private domestic and laundry services for several families in the area. She also served as a volunteer for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and LARC. A lifelong member of Center Congregational Church, she was a member of various groups and gave of her time, talents and treasure whenever possible. She is probably best known for being the consummate mother, a hard worker, and one rapt in the love of family. Nellie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Jim Garfield, and sisters Rose Gelormino, Caroline Senzamici, and Tillie Roy, all of Torrington. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie “Lolly” Saporite, her brother Anthony “Tony” Gelormino, and sisters Fannie Killiany and Violet Gelormino. Private funeral services have been entrusted to Rowe Funeral Home at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
