Mrs. Virginia (Mann) Wolven, age 93, of Goshen, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, peacefully at her home, in the company of her niece. She was the wife of the late Arnold R. Wolven, and daughter of the late Rev. Archibald I. Mann and Olive (Taber) Mann. Mrs. Wolven was born in Yonkers, NY on August 20, 1919. She worked for many years at the Yonkers Public Library, retiring as Library Director in 1976. In Yonkers, she and her husband of 64 years raised two children, and she was an active member of the Park Hill Reformed Church, a Girl Scout leader, and Soroptimist. In retirement, she carried on her family and community life in Goshen, CT as an active member of many groups in the community including the Church of Christ Congregational in Goshen, the Goshen Writers Group, Goshen Quilters, Goshen Garden Club, Friendly Neighbors, and a volunteer for the Goshen Public Library and the Historical Society. An avid writer, she helped compile a history of Goshen, "Goshen, Connecticut, a Town Above All Others," and had articles published in several magazines, and op-ed pieces in the Litchfield Times and the Waterbury Republican-American. She was predeceased by her daughter, Susan Rosenthal, and her loving husband, Arnold. She is survived by her son, Robert, of New York City, grandson, Nick Wolven, granddaughters Virginia Rosenthal and Laura Wolven, niece Rachel Croteau of Shelton, CT, two great-grandchildren and five nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 11:00AM at the Church of Christ Congregational in Goshen. The burial will be private.
